Shoes for Salerno, Afghanistan
Sometime helping others can be a chore, but we made it easy!

Featured speaker Dr. Kenneth Wilson, who is a U.S. Army Major,
has served three tours in the Middle East, working to save the lives of soldiers and civilians in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.

While in Salerno, Afghanistan, Major Wilson went beyond his medical call of duty and started a program called Shoes for Salerno, which provides shoes to Afghan children and adults. He was prompted to start the program after noticing patients in the local clinic wearing sandals in cold weather and in the mountainous terrain.

He sent a few messages to friends on Facebook and, before he knew it, he had a warehouse full of lightly worn shoes to dole out – including high heels, which the women love.

Major Wilson says: “When you actually meet the Afghan civilians that are not part of the extreme, they are very polite people and almost apologetic and humble. They are also very appreciative of any type of care that they receive.”

Thanks to everyone who donated their lightly worn shoes!
